What they do

Parley for the Oceans is a global network of creators, thinkers, and leaders using creativity to address ocean threats. Their AIR strategy (Avoid, Intercept, Redesign) provides a framework for tackling ocean plastic. Parley intercepts ocean-bound plastic and works with brands (most notably Adidas) to transform it into consumer products. Their collaborations have produced over 30 million pairs of shoes from recycled ocean plastic.

Why they matter

Parley proved that ocean plastic can be a material, not just waste. Their partnership with Adidas created the business case: 30+ million pairs of shoes made from intercepted ocean plastic, generating revenue that funds more interception. This model, where the waste stream funds its own cleanup, is more sustainable than donation-dependent conservation. Parley also works in education, science, and art to shift cultural relationships with the ocean.

How to support

Purchase Parley x Adidas products (shoes, apparel made from recycled ocean plastic). Participate in Parley's Global Cleanup Network events. Corporations can join the Parley network to implement the AIR strategy in their supply chains.

Key project to explore

The Parley x Adidas collaboration has produced over 30 million pairs of shoes from intercepted ocean plastic, creating a commercially viable, self-funding model for ocean cleanup.
